The Rapper's story:
Ahmed Ali, who records as Wegz, came up in Alexandria before moving to Cairo and becoming the central voice of the new Egyptian rap wave. His early tracks turned local slang, mahraganat rhythms and trap production into something that resonated from Sheikh Zayed to Sixth of October. "Dorak Gai" detonated through the region in 2020, and by the time he headlined the closing ceremony of AFCON in Cameroon he had become the first Arab artist with a billion streams on Anghami. He still works out of a small studio in Zamalek with the same circle of producers, splits his nights between rooftop sessions and the Nile, and treats Cairo — its traffic, its humour, its weight of history — as both subject and collaborator.
